High anaemia rate in China’s Xinjiang region suggests malnutrition in young people, say medical studies

Malnutrition has been increasing in Xinjiang, especially among children and adolescents, despite significant economic growth in the northwestern region, according to two separate studies by Chinese researchers.About 16 per cent of Xinjiang residents 15 years old or younger had anaemia, a condition in which there is lower concentration of red blood cells than normal.
