Ghislaine Maxwell’s bid to be freed on bail as she awaits her trail on sex trafficking charges has been rejected for the fifth time. Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged madam was also denied a court hearing on the conditions she has had to live with while locked up in jail.

The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan shot down Maxwell’s latest bail request in a one-page order filed on Wednesday. The three-judge panel behind the order did not provide details on its decision.

Maxwell’s lawyers had asked the appeals court to at minimum order the lower-court judge to hold a hearing for evidence around the bail to be presented. However, the 2nd Circuit also turned that request down.

The appeals court previously denied a bail request and her trial judge declined three other times, making Wednesday’s denial the fifth.

Maxwell, a British socialite and US citizen, is accused of procuring four underage girls for the late Epstein to sexually abuse from 1994 to 2004. She pleaded not guilty to the sex trafficking and other charges. Her trial is set to begin in late November, after being postponed from July.

Epstein killed himself inside his jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in August 2019 while waiting for his sex trafficking trial.

Maxwell was arrested last July and is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

Her appeals attorney, David Oscar Markus, said in an email that she ‘is subjected to more grueling conditions than any other inmate’ at the jail and called the facility a ‘complete disaster’.

Markus argued that Maxwell is unable to adequately prepare for trial behind bars there because jail guards wake her up every 15 minutes with lights to check on her.

‘We all know the truth – this is due to the Epstein effect. Because Epstein died on the jail’s watch, it has decided to torture Ghislaine,’ Markus said. ‘That’s wrong.’
