Kelly Osbourne has opened up on her battle with drink and drug addiction, revealing on Jada Pinkett-Smith’s Red Table Talk she took heroin after first becoming hooked on drugs as a teenager.
The star, who has previously spoken honestly about her struggles, previously confessed she used to be in a ‘haze of hangovers and withdrawals’ until she decided to change her ways for good in 2017 – however she relapsed during the pandemic.
In a preview of the upcoming Facebook Watch episode, Kelly recalled her spiral into addiction which began as a 13-year-old following surgery, in a no-holds-barred conversation with Jada, Jada’s mum Adrienne Banfield-Norris and her daughter Willow Smith.
The 36-year-old: ‘I had a really bad case of tonsillitis. They ended up having to give me some crazy surgery and after that they gave me Vicodin and that was all I needed.’
Adrienne reacted to Kelly’s admission she was given the drug so young: ‘Are you kidding me right now?!’
Kelly went on: ‘I went from having every voice in my head being like, “You’re fat, you’re ugly, you’re not good enough, no one likes you, you don’t deserve this, people only like you because of who your parents are,” and then all of a sudden every single voice was silenced and it felt life gave me a hug.
‘I was like, “Why am I so confident in all of this?” and then very quickly it went from Vicodin to Percocet from Percocet to heroin eventually, because it was cheaper.’
In April, Kelly shared she had relapsed after four years of sobriety, as she believed she could drink casually again – which was also teamed with difficulties with Alcoholics Anonymous meetings during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She previously told Extra: ‘I don’t know why my nervous breakdown happened at the end of the lockdown. I made it all the way through, everything was great and my life was perfect. I’m that girl that when everything is going great, I need to **k it up a little and make everything a little bit worse in my life.’

Sharing more about how she began drinking again in lockdown, she explained on the Red Table Talk she’d ‘made it all the way through the pandemic,’ but relapsed after seeing a woman having a glass of champagne by the pool one day.
Kelly explained: ‘I was like, “Oh, I can do that too,” and then the next day I had two glasses and then the day after that it was bottles.’
